The SE Iowa Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, along with those who generously support us wiith their talent, time, and resources, is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in our community. Through events like the Komen SE Iowa Race for the Cure, we have invested over $145,000 in 2011 for local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in our 10 counties. Up ot 75% of net proceeds generated by the Komen SE Iowa Affiliate stay in our service area. The remaining funds go to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program for research to find cures.
Our goal is to increase the number of individuals utilizing quality breast health services, providing low cost or free screenings and mammograms, and remove lanuage barriers.
Objective 1: Increase the education and awareness to the female population of the Southeast Iowa service area through public events in the community, as well as materials in Spanish.
Objective 2: Invest in extending access to breast cancer services to the low income, uninsured, and underinsured population of the community.
Objective 3: Create key partnerships with breast health-organizations and community groups to build strong alliances and advocates to make early detection services more available and wide spread.
The Community Profile is a needs assessment document that provides an overview of Komen’s grant-making priorities and the breast health needs in our service area. Please familiarize yourself with this document before developing your applications.
